- The chancellors of the five universities members of the Universitaria Consortium have decided to establish, in partnership with Banca Comercială Română, the first university think-tank for leadership and public policies. The Council for Leadership and Public Policies will be made up of two representatives appointed by each university from the Consortium.
- The partnership aims at gathering resources for Romania’s development, by a series of programs for the development and counseling of administrative, political, economic and social decision-makers in terms of issuing and implementing public policies.
Bucharest, June 28th 2018 – Universitaria Consortium and BCR have created the first university think-tank for leadership and public policies. The Council for Leadership and Public Policies, created by the most important universities in the country together with the biggest bank in Romania, aims at gathering resources for the development of Romania, with a view to achieving five objectives:
- to consolidate the social leadership of academic institutions
- to achieve coherence of the development policies, public governance and institutional development
- to connect the business environment to the social and trust capital development at the level of the entire Romanian society
- to mobilize the civil society in debating, issuing and implementing public policies
- to promote international cooperation and experience exchanges in the issuing of public policies, including the mobilization of the intellectual and relations capital of the Romanian Diaspora
“Romania has tremendous potential: geographical position, human potential and natural resources. We need strategic thinking more than ever, one that should subsequently translate into recommendations on how to build up Romania’s prosperity on a long term. Together we have the power and the responsibility to make up for the development gaps in relation with Europe. Together we can build consensus that society needs so much, by the contribution of some of the brightest minds in Romania. We are ready to provide all the necessary resources to provide for a better life in Romania” – this is the statement made by Sergiu Manea, CEO of BCR.
The partnership implies the development of some social-economic research programs, as well as public policies and public communication programs pertaining to social and economic development strategic priorities of Romania.
Universitaria Consortium comprises the University Babeş-Bolyai from Cluj-Napoca, the West University from Timişoara, the University of Bucharest, “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University from Iaşi and the Business School (ASE) from Bucharest, whose management boards meet on a regular basis to debate upon various topics related to the Romanian university system, as well as development strategies. The resolutions and proposals deriving from the discussions held by specialists from all these universities are conveyed to the Ministry of National Education, so as to have a starting point for debate and review.
