Bucharest, 13 January 2020 – Banca Comercială Română will have a new Chief Economist and Research Manager, Ciprian Dascălu, who will take over this position starting 15 January this year. He follows Horia Braun-Erdei, appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Erste Asset Management Romania on 1 November 2019.

Being 40 years of age, Ciprian Dascălu has been working in the banking system since 2003, and has accrued consistent experience in macro and microeconomics, financial markets and economic models, but also in statistics, risk management and retail & corporate banking.

Prior to joining BCR team, he held the position of Chief Economist of ING Bank Romania, starting with 2015. Ciprian held also a position of Economist with the Monetary Policy Directorate of the National Bank of Romania (2003-2006), Senior Trader with Millennium Bank (2007-2014), and Market Business Manager with the Treasury of Unicredit Tiriac Bank (2015). In the recent years, Ciprian Dascălu was nominated the best forecaster by prominent macro-economic forecast aggregators, such as Consensus Macroeconomics and Focus Economics, both at the level of the entire economy and in the area of individual macro-indicators. Also, Ciprian ended several years in the first position of Bloomberg’s ranking for the forecast of various macro indicators (inflation rate or key interest rate).

Ciprian Dascălu graduated the Finance & Banking Faculty of the Academy of Economic Studies of Bucharest, after which he obtained a DOFIN master’s degree in the financial & banking area.
